If there’s one thing I could say to sum myself up, it’s that I thrive on learning and doing new things. That’s why I feel so fortunate to have ended up in the material handling industry. It’s been my own little niche where I can really grow both personally and professionally. Now, as IT/Marketing Manager for Conveyer & Caster-Equipment for Industry, I get to throw myself into a little bit of everything.
Obviously, as you can tell from my title, my main responsibilities lie in IT and marketing. I’ve developed most of my IT knowledge in the field instead of in the classroom. I’ve been playing with computers since I was two or three years old. As a kid, if you’re going to play around with computers and break them, you sure better learn how to fix them. I did. I supplemented my curiosity with a lot of hands-on training throughout the years and I’m still learning every day. I’ve got a great network of friends in the IT industry, and when we hang out, we talk tech. I also try to keep up with all of the tech blogs. In a field like IT, you’ve really got to stay ahead of the curve.
As far as marketing goes, I run our Web site and am in charge of all our marketing communications. Whether it’s print, electronic or online, I do it all. I handle some of the ad design, working with our outside contractor.
When I’m not handling either of those responsibilities, which is often, I’m running around the office doing any number of things. I’m very proficient with CAD, something I studied in high school and while working as a co-op while studying Civil Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. I often handle the hot CAD projects because I can do them so quickly.
I also facilitate our continuous improvement and strategic planning. Not that I’m doing the strategic planning, but I’m responsible for keeping everyone on task, and headed in the right direction.
I’m fortunate that I get to wear a different hat every day. I don’t think I could handle a job where I’m doing the same thing week in and week out. I’m constantly working with my colleagues to find ways to solve problems and get things done right. It really makes my day when we attack a problem and things just gel together and we solve it as a team. At 26 years old, I’ve been doing this for about five years now and I still learn something new every day. This job and this industry have given me a great deal so far, I can’t wait to see what the future brings.
