Carbon Steel Prices Increase

After Nucor Corp., a Pittsburgh-area steelmaker, raised the price of a sheet of carbon steel for three consecutive weeks, industry officials are questioning the sustainability of rapidly rising tags. On December 6, 2010, the steelmaker informed customers that it was raising the price of flat-rolled products by $40 per ton. That announcement closely followed two similar price increases in late November and early December. Mill sources say that the rapid increase in prices stems from increased demand for the product and the need to recoup margins.
