Nashville, TN – Gordon Morrow, president of The Bailey Company, is retiring from the industry today, February 1. Bert Bailey will take over as president in addition to his role as chairman and CEO. Morrow’s retirement coincides with his 53rd anniversary with the company. Morrow started at the company in 1958 as a salesperson before becoming a branch manager, general manager, vice president and ultimately president of the company in 1978. “The fun part of my time in the industry has been in the problem-solving. I enjoy solving difficult applications. It’s been a great ride with all of the fun and solutions involved,” says Morrow.
While his time with The Bailey Company is coming to a close, Morrow doesn’t plan to get too far away from the material handling industry. “I might do some writing or some consulting. I’ve given a number of talks through the years, and I’m thinking of putting those down on paper. I don’t have any particular plans, but I know I’m going to stay close to the industry.” Morrow advises all newcomers to the industry to join MHEDA. “The association has great educational opportunities, and the real value is in sitting and communicating with other dealers in the country. Involvement in MHEDA is a great way to learn the industry,” says Morrow. Morrow says that the thing he will miss most is the personal relationships that he has with his employees and customers.
