Schiller Park, IL — Howard Bernstein, former CEO of Atlas Lift Truck Rentals & Sales (Schiller Park, IL), transferred ownership of the company to Allen Rawson. The move came on Friday, February 11, 2011. Rawson, who is now in his mid-50’s, has been with the company since he was 17. He assumes ownership of the company after having served as president for more than 8 years. “It will be a seamless transition,” says Bernstein. “The people are already in place, and our employees shouldn’t notice a difference.”
The 88-year-old Bernstein will spearhead an initiative to institute a scholarship program for colleges with an Industrial Distribution curriculum. “We have to attract these young bright people into this industry that has been so good to me,” says Bernstein, who will announce the scholarship program at the Past Presidents’ dinner at the MHEDA Convention (April 30-May 4) in Phoenix, AZ. The first winners will be announced at next year’s Convention in Miami Beach, FL.
The scholarship program has been a goal of Mr. Bernstein’s for over 40 years. “When I was president of MHEDA in 1965, I provided a small scholarship to Bradley University in Peoria, IL. I did it to get some publicity for the industry. My prime goal over 40 years ago was to draw people into material handling.”
While Bernstein’s time at Atlas has come to a close, he will remain in close ties with the material handling industry. MHEDA congratulates Mr. Bernstein and wishes him well!
