ProMat 2011 featured four days of exhibits showcasing the latest material handling and logistics solutions. MHEDA members turned out in force, as more than 111 exhibited and many more attended. MHEDA was able to recruit 10 new members at its booth, and also hosted a reception that allowed members and prospects to network. Attendance at the show was estimated at more than 25 percent above that of 2009, and attendees displayed great optimism about the future of the industry and the strength of the economic recovery. Exhibitors frequently commented on how much heavier the traffic to their booths was and that they expected increased growth and profits in 2011 as the economy continues to improve.
That sentiment jibed with what the material handling industry of America (MHIA) presented at their annual “State of the Industry” press conference on Tuesday, March 22, 2011. MHIA CEO John Nofsinger and COO George Prest highlighted the robust growth that the material handling industry experienced in the last year, saying that the industry is on an accelerated growth cycle marked by an 18 percent increase in new orders in 2010 as compared to 2009. The MHIA outlook also calls for a further 11 to 12 percent growth in new orders and product shipments in 2011.
