World Steel Use To Grow 6% In 2011

The World Steel Association reported that steel use is expected to increase by almost 6 percent in 2011. That growth rate is lower than 2010, when worldwide steel use increased 13.2 percent. Steel use in the United States will grow 13 percent, according to the report, pushing use to 90.5 million metric tons in 2011. In 2012, steel use in the U.S. is expected to return to 90 percent of 2007 levels with consumption growing by 6.9 percent to 96.7 million metric tons.
