What has been the biggest industry innovation in the last decade?
The 80-volt electric truck and the innovation of battery and charger technology to permit rapid or opportunity charging, which was a “no-no” for decades. We can now offer electric trucks in outdoor applications and electric trucks are now more of an option in more applications because multiple batteries and expensive battery changing stations are no longer required.

What has been the biggest industry innovation in the last decade?
The ability to communicate via smartphone and IPad with customers, vendors and staff. It has saved so much time and reduced the amount of staff needed to provide first class service. By tying together information search with email and photos, it has allowed for projects to be provided and managed without field sales representation.

What is your “campaign promise” to the association?
I will continue to work on the cutting edge of technology and social media to help ensure that our association will remain a leader in the trade association arena.

Doug Carson

What has been the biggest industry innovation in the last decade?
I believe the biggest innovation benefiting end users of lift trucks is the development of web-based fleet and vehicle management tools and the subsequent gradual embracement by our customer base. This has required distributors to engage customers in a completely different manner from a decade ago, transitioning from a transactional selling approach to an ongoing consultative partnership.

What is your “campaign promise” to the association?
I promise to do my best to help MHEDA bring world class learning and educational experiences to our members through the MHEDA Education Committee and MHEDA University.

What has been the biggest industry innovation in the last decade?
I believe that evolution, rather than any individual innovation, would best describe the industry and its changes over the last decade. Successful dealerships have found the way to share more information with employees and motivate them to higher levels of performance. This includes the use of technology as a means to introduce new ways to approach the way we “re-imagine” our business in more competitive, productive and profitable ways.

What is your “campaign promise” to the association?
My campaign promise is to continually challenge myself and my fellow board members to continually think into the future, to think of innovation for the next generation of material handling professionals.

What has been the biggest industry innovation in the last decade?
The continued advancement in technology and the ability to convey, scan and sort a wide variety of products from boxes to envelopes to poly bags. The manufacturers are doing a great job providing our customers the technology required to keep up with the increased demand of both units and parcels to process in short periods of time.

What is your “campaign promise” to the association?
I look forward to continuing to serve as an adviser to the board, and sharing what I have learned over the last nine years and assisting the next generation of association leaders.

Gregory Morrison
MHEDA Advisory Board
Vice President, Morrison Industrial Equipment Company,
Grand Rapids, MI Industry
Experience: 25 years

What has been the biggest industry innovation in the last decade?
Industrial battery chargers. Today’s high frequency chargers consume much less energy to charge a battery, which is good for the environment. The capabilities of rapid and opportunity charging can eliminate an additional battery, and that equates into possible elimination of battery handling, which is a safety concern. If you eliminate battery changing you also eliminate a battery room which frees up square footage for the end user. The new breed of high frequency chargers are more efficient, better for the battery, safer, good for the environment and are offering major cost savings to the end user. These are solutions customers are looking for.

What is your “campaign promise” to the association?
To recruit and engage the next generation of talent in our industry to be involved in MHEDA.
