MHEDA Members Donate Equipment and Services to State of the Art Lab

The Toyota Production Systems Laboratory at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is a nationally recognized facility made possible, in part, by donations of equipment and services from MHEDA and MHEDA members such as UNEX, Toyota, Hytrol and Conveyor Solutions. Today, the Toyota Production Systems Laboratory serves as a platform for delivery of experiential education in the topics of lean, problem solving and production systems behavior in five courses in the industrial engineering curriculum, one in mechanical engineering and two in the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.

Associated Recognized by Inc. Magazine

Inc. Magazine recognized Associated (Addison, IL) on its seventh annual Inc. 500/5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. Associated joins LivingSocial, Edible Arrangements, CDW and Lifelock, among other brands featured on this year’s list. In the last three years Associated has achieved a growth rate of 44 percent and added 58 new jobs.

Castanon Joins Dunn/Powers

CastanonEnrique “Rick” Castanon joins the Dunn/Powers Material Handling team as a Retail Showroom Sales Associate. In this position, Rick is responsible for all sales, customer service and marketing functions of the Dunn/Powers Material Handling Showroom. In addition, he will implement in-store product promotions, product placement and promotion of website ordering.

Rick brings more than 20 years of retail sales management, including store operations with major retail chains with national reach to the role. He is well-versed in merchandising and customer service metrics. Rick is graduated from the University of San Francisco with a B.S. in Business Economics.

“We are very excited to have Rick on board at Duun/Powers” said Kevin Stevens, Sales Manager for Dunn/Powers. “Rick has excelled in all his previous positions engaging the customer with positive outcomes and increasing revenues. His extensive experience in all aspects of retail and sales will take Dunn/Powers to the next level.”

Clark Celebrates Two Safety Milestones

Clark Material Handling Company was presented with the Kentucky Governor’s Safety & Health Award for both of its Kentucky facilities. It was the sixth award for Clark’s Aftermarket Parts Distribution Center in Louisville and first for Clark’s manufacturing and distribution center located in Lexington. Both facilities were recognized for working over one million hours combined without a lost-time accident. The Louisville facility has worked more than 10 years without a lost-time accident.

UniCarriers Announces Executive Appointments

UniCarriers Americas announces appointments of seven executives to new positions due to rapid global growth in its fiscal 2012 year, which ended March 31, 2013. This growth includes 15 percent year-over-year sales and operating profit growth and nearly 10 percent market share growth in the Americas alone. The appointments include Anthony J. Salgado to president; James J. Radous III to executive vice president sales, Americas; Steve Cianci to vice president, sales and marketing; Dan Domberg to vice president, aftermarket customer satisfaction; Dale Mark to vice president, manufacturing operations; Mark Manninen to senior director, business and channel development and Brian Markison to director of sales, North America.

Eastern Lift Truck Employees Help Rebuild Theatre

Among the places hit by Superstorm Sandy was Long Beach Island, an 18-mile strip of land near Atlantic City. The Surflight Theatre was heavily damaged by the storm. Volunteers from Eastern Lift Truck pitched in to remove debris, install new flooring for the stage, clean hallways and offices, install new drywall and wainscoting and apply layers of new paint to get the theatre open for the 2013 season. Said Surflight Director of Operations Bill Lawton, “Without Mike Pruitt (President of Eastern Lift) and his group of volunteers from Eastern Lift, the Surflight would never have been able to open the 2013 season on time. They did a wonderful job helping us get back on our feet and we are extremely grateful for all their help.”

MHEDA Mourns Dottie Berger MacKinnon

MHEDA extends its condolences to the friends and family of Dottie Berger MacKinnon, who passed away on October 13 after a battle with cancer. She was 71. Dottie and her husband, A.D. “Sandy” MacKinnon, president of MacKinnon Equipment & Services, were extremely active in the Tampa area. Dottie was a tireless children’s advocate and co-founded Joshua House and Friends of Joshua House, and was the founder regarded as most central to the Kids Charity of Tampa Bay and A Kid’s Place, which all offer aid to children in crisis. Dottie served on numerous charitable boards and was one of the most distinguished voices in Tampa Bay.

Dottie is survived by her husband, A.D. “Sandy” Mackinnon; daughters Shannan Aprile, Darcy Davis and Kate Hill; sons Robert Berger Jr. and Alex MacKinnon; sister Mary Johnson; brothers Frank, Joe, Mike and Marshall Crutcher; Jamie Clarkson; and 17 grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Associated and Peach State Announce Merger

Associated and Peach State Integrated Technologies have reached an agreement for Associated to acquire Peach State. The merger creates one of the largest supply chain solution companies in North America. Under the agreement, Peach State will operate as a subsidiary of Associated. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2014. Peach State will continue to operate under their name and brand identity with the same leadership and organizational structure. The merger will make the combined organization one of the largest supply chain solution providers in North American in both size and breadth of solution offerings.

Partnerships, Acquisitions and Expansions

• Craft Equipment Company purchased American Waste Control of Florida (AWC). The acquisition of AWC will further strengthen Craft’s operations in the four southernmost counties of Florida, including Miami.

• TECSYS Inc. has partnered with WERC (Warehousing Education and Research Council) to leverage the metrics of high performers in WERC’s DC Measure’s industry study, and embed them into TECSYS’ analytics and business intelligence tools.

• Burns Industrial Equipment acquired Ohio Materials Handling. The transaction was designed to enhance coverage and strengthen support for Hyster lift truck customers in the Northeast territory.
