The 1st Quarter 2014 issue of The MHEDA Journal is now online. Every year, the 1st Quarter issue is our annual “Economic Forecast” issue of the magazine. This year we spoke with more than 100 MHEDA distributors and suppliers to find out what they see in store for 2014. We also spoke with other associations around the industry such as MHI, CEMA, ITA and MAPI to find out what is on the docket for this year. Our goal in presenting all of this information is to give readers several different perspectives in an attempt to paint a complete picture of the economy going forward.
And, as is to be expected in an association that spans North America and represents several different product categories, the answers were pretty scattered. For instance, across the board MHEDA dealers expect growth in 2014. Not one company that we surveyed expected sales to be lower than 2013. And several of those companies were coming off record years last year. In short, the outlook is looking great for MHEDA dealers in 2014.
Suppliers, however, had a much more tempered outlook on 2014. While they still expect slight growth, forecasts were not nearly as robust for manufacturers as they were for dealers.
The question I pose to you is why do you think this disparity exists? How is it that dealers expect to enjoy such strong growth while suppliers see a small uptick, if anything? I would love to hear your opinions on the matter. Reach out to us via Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or Google+ to join the conversation. We want to hear what you have to say!
For more information about what to expect in 2014, make sure to attend this year’s MHEDA Convention, May 3-7, 2014, at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando in Orlando, Florida.
