By now, everybody has seen the #ALSIceBucketChallenge. As you will read in the 4Q 2014 issue (mailing early October) of The MHEDA Journal, I devoted the lion’s share of my editor’s note to the phenomenon.
I wrote, “This is an outstanding example of a company standing out online. Celebrities, presidents, athletes and even dozens of MHEDA members took part in these viral videos, which served two purposes. The first was to raise awareness about the terrible disease that is ALS. The second was to raise money for ALS charities. As of this writing, the ALS Association has raised more than $15.6 million as a result of the challenge, nine times what it normally raises in the same time frame, according to Forbes. This was a simple but extremely innovative and effective use of the Internet as a medium for promotion.”
Well MHEDA members not only answered the call for action, they also proved that they have a flair for style and a keen eye for distinguishing themselves online.
